Changes to my study programme
Hi!
I’m studying chemistry
and pharmacy at university of Chile. This career lasts five and a half years (theoretically)
but most of the students take 7 or 8 years. In this career you can learn about
science and all the processes behind of medication, also you will know about
different diseases or pathologies and his treatments.
We have a lot of
subjects related with many areas, like industry, laboratories, health,
regulatory things, cosmetics, and others. I agree with most of the subjects we
have, but sometimes the “requirements” for some courses are the problem. For
example, you need to pass the subject electromagnetism to take cellular
physiology the next semester. I think these subjects aren’t related, so if you fail,
it takes another year immediately in the first year. So, I would change that, and
I would like to implement more laboratories (like subjects not like
infrastructure).
With respect to
workload, I think in the last two years, it is very high, specially the last
year. Because every week you have presentation, papers, homework, tests, etc.
And most students have around 6 subjects and you must take “specialized electives”
to complete the 15 credits. It’s too much. And each elective gives you 3 or 2
credits… some gives you 4 credits, but that means it is more work. I would like
more options for specialized electives and more vacancies (because only 20 students
can be in a subject).
About infrastructure,
now in 2023 I think is acceptable (before we didn’t have a cafeteria, and now
we have one) but I think it’s necessary to install more tables for lunch time.

The excess of requirements and the fact that there are no applications for subjects without requirements for the common plan, is a big problem!
